The prospect and rumor of Duke breaking an NCAA rule in the dark of the night has people in a tizzy this afternoon.

And it's all because of an anecdote Dan Patrick passed along.

Near the end of his national radio show Thursday morning, Patrick said the following:

"Am I allowed to tell people about what happened with Duke basketball? Now, we're looking into this. The Duke charter landed in Durham at 12:42 in the morning. Practiced started at 1:30 a.m., finished up at 4:45 a.m. We're being told by a couple of people who work there at Duke that Coach K was not pleased after being blown out by 27."

Mike Krzyzewski is denying that publicly.

If true, Duke would have violated an NCAA rule that states practice cannot take place between midnight and 5 a.m. unless it's initiated only by the players and only players are present.

No. 1 Duke fell at Miami 90-63 Wednesday night in one of the worst losses all time for a top-ranked team.
