HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) Cortez Edwards went off for a career-best 29 points on 12-for-15 shooting with eight rebounds, five assists and four steals and Southern Miss made 60 percent of its shots to defeat Rust College 109-59 on Sunday, its most points in a game since 2007.

The Golden Eagles (4-4), coming off four road games in six days, shot their way into a double-digit lead after 5:15 had elapsed on a pair of Edwards free throws and built it to 21 by halftime (57-36).

Rust College (1-9), which competes in the NAIA, was led by 15 points from Allen Potts, 12 from Quantarius Dean and 10 from DeVante Johnson but turned the ball over 23 times.

Tyree Griffin added 21 points for Southern Miss (4-4), which is unbeaten at home, Dominic Magee tossed in 18 and Kevin Holland 14.

The Golden Eagles made 16 steals and had 32 assists on 46 made baskets.
