San Diego State assistant Mark Fisher has been diagnosed with ALS and will consequently assume new responsibilities with the program, the school has announced.

Mark Fisher is the son of head coach Steve Fisher.

The 34-year-old's new title is "assistant to the head coach."

This will be Mark Fisher's 12th season with SDSU. He spent the first five as the program's director of basketball operations. He's been a full-time assistant for each of the past six.

David Velasquez will fill Mark Fisher's former role on the staff.

This will also be Velasquez's 12th season working at San Diego State.
