The New Mexico Lobos and the Wyoming Cowboys will face off in a Mountain West clash at 7:30 p.m. ET Jan. 22 at Arena-Auditorium. Wyoming will be strutting in after a victory while the Lobos will be stumbling in from a loss.
New Mexico was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Wednesday as they fell 80-74 to the Colorado State Rams. Guard Jamal Mashburn Jr. wasn't much of a difference maker for New Mexico; Mashburn Jr. finished with 13 points on 6-for-18 shooting in his 36 minutes on the court.
Meanwhile, while not quite a landslide, the matchup between Wyoming and the San Jose State Spartans on Wednesday was still a pretty decisive one as Wyoming wrapped it up with an 84-69 win at home. The Cowboys' guard Hunter Maldonado did his thing and dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 assists in addition to five rebounds.
The Lobos have to know they'll be fighting an uphill battle given the 10.50 point spread they are up against. However, those who like betting on the underdog should be happy to hear that they are 7-3 against the spread when expected to lose.
New Mexico is now 7-11 while Wyoming sits at 14-2.
