Barry Sanders Jr. is following in his father's footsteps, even if he took a Stanford detour. Sanders told The Oklahoman that he will be transferring to Oklahoma State, where his father Barry Sanders spent his college career, for his final season of eligibility.

“They’ve got my full commitment and I’m looking forward to being there come late June,” Sanders told the paper.

Sanders said that when he told his father of his decision, and why he made it, his dad "was pretty comfortable with it and he’s just as excited as I am.”

Sanders is scheduled to graduate from Stanford this summer, which means he will not be required to sit out a season, and could play for the Cowboys in the fall.

In his three seasons at Stanford, Sanders Jr. rushed for 672 yards and five touchdowns on 115 carries. With Heisman finalist Christian McCaffery returning to Palo Alto, California next season, odds are Sanders would still be in a secondary role on the Cardinal offense. While he certainly won't just take the starting job with Oklahoma State, the former four-star back has a better chance of seeing significant playing time in Stillwater, Oklahoma so it's a good move for all involved.
