BYU's secondary received a welcomed last-minute addition on Thursday, with the NCAA's deeming former Notre Dame defensive back Chris Badger eligible to compete for the Cougars immediately.

Badger began practicing with the Cougars in late August, getting accustomed to his new team while the school filed a waiver request on his behalf. The defensive back sat out 2012 at Notre Dame after his LDS mission, officially signing with the Fighting Irish in Aug. 2010.

Badger's addition adds much-needed depth to the BYU defense; a unit that has suffered the loss of multiple starters due to injuries and team rules violations. He has not played a competitive snap since wrapping his high school career in 2009, but the upside is that, eligibility-wise, Badger is only a redshirt freshman.
