TCU's stellar defense returns most of its starters from 2014, but not defensive coordinator Dick Bumpas.

A school spokesperson confirmed to ESPN.com that Bumpas, the Horned Frogs defensive coordinator and defensive line coach since 2004, will retire after nearly four decades of coaching.

Bumpas was a three-time finalist for the Frank Broyles Award (2008, 2009, 2010), given to the nation's top assistant, and helped develop several of TCU's biggest stars as the defensive line coach during his time in Fort Worth.

TCU fans will remember Bumpas' signature mustache and his efforts in helping Gary Patterson build succcessful defenses as the Horned Frogs rolled through the Mountain West, moved to the Big 12 and just last year finished with a conference title and Peach Bowl win in the New Years Six.

Bumpas and Gary Patterson first met at Kansas State, when the former was a defensive line coach and the latter was a senior linebacker. They went on to work together at Kansas State, Tennessee Tech, Utah State and Navy before reuniting at TCU in 2004.
