Korenar has signed a two-year contract with HC Sparta Praha of the Czechia league, Arizona Coyotes Insider Craig Morgan reports. Korenar wasn't expected to be tendered by the Coyotes as a restricted free agent this summer, so this news doesn't come as a surprise. It remains to be seen if the 24-year-old goaltender will try to return to the NHL following his two-year stint with HC Sparta Praha.... See More ... See Less

Coyotes' Josef Korenar: Solid in relief outing
Korenar allowed two goals on 28 shots in relief of Karel Vejmelka in Friday's 5-0 loss to the Ducks. Korenar has made both of his appearances this season in relief. He played the last 50:18 of the lopsided contest Friday, as the Coyotes' depleted offense sans Clayton Keller (leg) was unable to get anything going. Korenar shouldn't have to wait long for his first start with the Coyotes -- they visit the Blackhawks on Sunday and the Blues on Monday for their next two games. Korenar has allowed three goals on 35 shots in his two outings.... See More ... See Less -
Coyotes' Josef Korenar: Makes team debut in relief
Korenar allowed a goal on seven shots in relief of Karel Vejmelka in Monday's 6-1 loss to the Oilers. Korenar didn't face much traffic with the Oilers having full control of the game, but he still allowed a goal to Leon Draisaitl in the third period. The 24-year-old Korenar has yet to really compete with Vejmelka, who started on consecutive nights in this contest. Korenar is likely set for a backup role, though he could also end up with AHL Tucson once Harri Sateri gets up to speed with the Coyotes after he was claimed on waivers.... See More ... See Less -
Coyotes' Josef Korenar: Heads back to AHL
The Coyotes demoted Korenar from the taxi squad to AHL Tucson on Wednesday. The goalie was added to Arizona's taxi squad Sunday as an emergency option but now heads back to Tucson. His most recent NHL action came last season, when he posted a 3.17 GAA and .899 save percentage in 10 games for the Sharks.... See More ... See Less -

He's sporting a brutal .862 save percentage through five AHL games during the 2021-22 campaign.... See More ... See Less -

Korenar will start against the Kings in Monday's preseason contest. Arizona acquired Korenar from San Jose this offseason and he'll compete for a backup role before the season begins. He made 10 NHL appearances last season, recording a 3.17 GAA and an .899 save percentage alongside a 3-5-0 record.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Josef Korenar: Inks extension with San Jose
Korenar signed a one-year contract extension with the Sharks on Tuesday. Korenar made 10 appearances with the big club last season, posting a 3-5-0 record with a 3.17 GAA and .899 save percentage. He was solid in four AHL playoff starts, as evidenced by his 2.03 GAA and .929 save percentage with the Barracuda. He's likely to open 2021-22 in the AHL, as well.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Josef Korenar: Headed to minors
Korenar was sent to AHL San Jose on Thursday, per CapFriendly. Korenar notched a 3-5-0 record with a 3.17 GAA and an .899 save percentage in 10 games this season. He could open the 2021-22 campaign as the backup to Martin Jones if the Sharks don't sign another goalie in the offseason.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Josef Korenar: Sent to taxi squad
Korenar was assigned to the taxi squad Wednesday, per CapFriendly. Korenar is inactive for the Sharks' regular-season finale as Alexei Melnichuk gets another chance to impress the coaching staff. The 23-year-old Korenar posted a 3-5-0 record with a 3.17 GAA and an .899 save percentage in 10 appearances this year. He'll likely be competing for a job with the big club in training camp ahead of the 2021-22 season.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Josef Korenar: Overwhelmed by Coyotes
Korenar yielded four goals on 33 shots in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Coyotes. The fifth goal was an empty-netter. Korenar was fairly solid for the first 30 minutes, but the Coyotes' offense rallied from behind. This result left Korenar with his fourth loss in seven starts. He fell to 3-5-0 with a 3.17 GAA and an .899 save percentage in 10 appearances overall. Korenar is likely set to sit out Saturday's rematch with the Coyotes as Alexei Melnichuk makes his first NHL start.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Josef Korenar: Slated to start
Korenar is on track to start between the pipes in Friday's home game against Arizona, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Korenar was sharp in his last start Wednesday versus Colorado, stopping 30 of 32 shots en route to an impressive 3-2 victory. He'll attempt to earn his fourth win of the campaign in a home matchup with a slumping Coyotes club that's lost three of its last four games.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Josef Korenar: Impressive in win over Avalanche
Korenar allowed two goals on 32 shots in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Avalanche. Korenar gave up a pair of second-period goals, but he shook it off and played perfectly to backstop the Sharks' third-period comeback. The 23-year-old goalie continues to eat into Martin Jones' playing time. Korenar has a 3-4-0 record with a 3.04 GAA and a .902 save percentage in nine games. The Czech netminder will likely see at least one more start in the Sharks' last three contests of the season.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Josef Korenar: Tending twine Wednesday
Korenar will guard the crease for Wednesday's home clash with Colorado, Kevin Kurz of The Athletic reports. Since making his NHL debut April 10, Korenar is 2-4-0 with a 3.21 GAA in eight contests, not exactly a stellar start to his NHL career. Still, the 23-year-old netminder should continue to see plenty of action down the stretch as the Sharks try to determine their plans between the pipes into the future, though being tied to Martin Jones for another three years at a $5.75 million cap hit certainly muddies the waters.... Sharks' Josef Korenar: Heavy workload Saturday
Korenar made a season-high 40 saves on 44 shots Saturday in a 4-3 loss to Colorado. Korenar produced the best single-game save total of his young career, but it wasn't enough to win a third straight start. The 23-year-old rookie dropped to 2-4-0 on the year with a 3.21 GAA and .896 save percentage.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Josef Korenar: Starting Saturday
Korenar will guard the road cage during Saturday's matchup with the Avalanche, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports. Korenar was rock solid in his last start Wednesday against Arizona, turning aside 28 of 30 shots en route to a 4-2 victory. He'll try to secure a third straight win in a rough road matchup with a Colorado team that's averaging 3.83 goals per game at home this year, first in the NHL.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Josef Korenar: Earns first NHL win
Korenar allowed four goals on 25 shots in Monday's 6-4 win over the Coyotes. The Sharks built up a 4-0 lead early in the second period, but Korenar nearly gave it all back in a what became a close game at the end. The Czech netminder held on for the win, his first in six appearances at the NHL level. Despite the victory, it was a poor showing for Korenar, who gave up four goals for the third time in his four starts this year. The 23-year-old is likely to spell Martin Jones at times as the Sharks play out their schedule.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Josef Korenar: Comes off bench Saturday
Korenar stopped 15 of 17 shots in relief of starter Martin Jones Saturday in a 6-3 loss to the Wild. Korenar entered the game to start the second period with the Sharks already trailing 3-0. He gave up goals by Kevin Fiala and Kirill Kaprizov, the latter on a power play, before Minnesota's Nick Bonino finished things off with an empty netter. Korenar is winless in his first five NHL appearances (0-2-0) and owns a 3.05 GAA and .894 save percentage.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Josef Korenar: Plays third period in loss
Korenar saved all four shots he faced in relief of Martin Jones in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Wild. Korenar was lightly tested in his relief appearance after Jones yielded five goals through 40 minutes. The 23-year-old Korenar has worked as a backup during the road trip to Minnesota. The Czech netminder may give way to Alexei Melnichuk or Zach Sawchenko in the backup role once the Sharks return home after a two-game stay in Vegas on Monday and Wednesday.... See More ... Sharks' Josef Korenar: Set for first NHL start
Korenar will make his first NHL start Wednesday in a home matchup with the Ducks, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports. Korenar actually made his NHL debut in relief of Martin Jones Saturday against the Kings, stopping all seven shots he faced, but Wednesday will mark his first NHL start. The 23-year-old Korenar hasn't been great in the AHL this season, registering a sub-par 3.22 GAA and .898 save percentage in eight appearances. He'll attempt to secure his first NHL victory in a home matchup with an Anaheim team that's 8-9-3 on the road this year.... See More ... See Less
