Adam Scott hasn't had a great US Open career. He's only finished inside the top 25 at the US Open twice in 12 appearances and hasn't even sniffed a top 10 finish.

That all changed on Sunday at Pinehurst.

Scott closed with a final-round 67 that will likely be tied for the second-best round of the day on Sunday and a probable top nine or better finish.

Here's how he ended on the 72nd hole of his tournament.

"I wish I would have been closer," said Scott. "I'm playing some of the best golf of my life, but winning majors is hard."

That's a good lesson here. We act like everybody should be Tiger Woods from 2000 to 2005 when he was just shutting down majors all over the place. The reality is that if you can finish in the top 10 or 15 at any major, that's big time.

It's not always going to be your week, just like it wasn't for some of these other guys.

Other stars

Keegan Bradley (1 over): Bradley said "The USGA did a great job with the course setup this week. It's by far the best US Open I've ever played. It's a lot easier to say that when you finish in the top 10 (which Bradley did).

Rory McIlroy (6 over): Tough week for McIlroy. It kept feeling like he was going to make a move and just rocket up the leaderboard but it never came.

Still, it's good news for McIlroy that he didn't have that one awful round that's been crushing him lately. He'll be competitive at the British Open and PGA Championship.

Sergio Garcia (8 over): I think this GIF sums up Sergio's US Open quite nicely.

Jim Furyk (3 over): Furyk also shot a 67 on Sunday and then had this tremendous exchange:

Reporter: "In your last 20 holes you were 4 under. So pretty good charge?"

Furyk: "That's true."
