The PGA Tour returns to the continental United States this week with The American Express, which has one of the better fields we've seen over the past two decades of this event. Lee Hodges and Paul Barjon were tied at the top of the leaderboard after Round 3 with 18-under 198s.
The return to California also marks the expansion of PGA Tour Live, which will start showing four different feeds: the main feed, the marquee group feed, featured holes and featured groups. The main feed and the marquee group are both new and should enhance coverage immensely.
Here's how they're described by ESPN, which airs PGA Tour Live coverage now:
- Main Feed – The primary tournament coverage stream, showcasing the best action from across the course, with two dedicated booth announcers, a dedicated walking announcer and coverage drawn from all cameras at the event.
- Marquee Group – Every shot from each player in the group, with two booth announcers and one walking announcer calling the action.
That's compelling, and it adds to an event in which two of the top four players in the world – Jon Rahm and Patrick Cantlay – will duke it out for their first win of 2022 after their 2021 seasons were so intertwined. Throw in Phil Mickelson and the 2022 debut for Rickie Fowler, Matthew Wolff, Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris, and this event should be every bit as good as the first two weeks of the year have been.
