Already a 10-time major winner, Annika Sorenstam scored another huge win Tuesday as she became part of the first group of females ever granted Royal & Ancient membership.

The R&A only opened its doors to female members at the end of 2014 to the tune of an 85 percent vote. It was then that R&A CEO Peter Dawson noted that this day was coming sooner rather than later.

"The membership has also acted to fast-track a significant initial number of women to become members in the coming months," said Dawson.

The fast-track crested on Tuesday with Sorenstam, Laura Davies, Belle Robertson, Renee powell, Louise Suggs, Lally Segard and Princess Anne granted membership, according to the Associated Press.

"It is an honour and a privilege for The Royal and Ancient Golf Club to welcome these remarkable women as honorary members," wrote R&A captain George Macgregor.

"This is an historic day for the Club and we could not be more proud also to welcome women who have distinguished themselves in golf over many years and have been great players and champions."

On Twitter, Sorenstam expressed gratitude for being included in the seven-woman class.
