PINEHURST, N.C. -- Lugging a golf bag around in the sweltering summer heat of North Carolina is a hard enough task as it is. When you're 66? You'd be crazy to do it once, let alone twice. But Mike Cowan (a.k.a. "Fluff") is giving it a run.

Fluff will be on the bag for his long-time pro Jim Furyk during the 2014 U.S. Open here in Pinehurst and then he's going to roll it back the very next week when he totes the bag for Lydia Ko at the 2014 Women's U.S. Open, also held at No. 2.

"It’s going to be something of a learning experience for me,” Cowan said Wednesday. "But hopefully it all works out."

Cowan's been on Furyk's bag since 1999 (he joined up with the funky-swinger after three years working with Tiger Woods) but hasn't caddied a woman's tournament since 2004, when he worked with Michelle Wie

Fluff became famous primarily because of his looks: though he's "only" 66, he has an, ahem, mature appearance to him, stemming perhaps from his love for the Grateful Dead and his elder-hippie-statesman appearance.

Don't let his looks fool you, though. Fluff's a secretly-ripped Walrus and might just be capable of super-human strength.

It would be hard to doubt him if he pulls off back-to-back bag work in Pinehurst over the next fortnight.
