Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) showed why it has been the No. 1 team in the MaxPreps Top 25 all season on Friday night. The team scored 21 unanswered second-half points to down St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.), 42-21, in the biggest high school football game of the year so far. Sophomore quarterback Elijah Brown improved to 10-0 as a starter and finished the night with five touchdowns on 13 of 18 passing for 263 yards.

The 6-foot-2 190-pound quarterback has thrown for 1,809 yards and 26 touchdowns against one interception while completing nearly 73 percent of his passes this season. The loss dropped the Braves two spots to No. 5.

Head coach Eric Kjar and No. 13 Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) beat Westlake (Saratoga Springs) 56-0 for their 48th straight win. The Chargers look to break Duchesne's record Thursday against a very good Lone Peak (Highland) team. Kjar is 59-1 since taking over before the 2017 season and Corner Canyon has the second longest active win streak (Alabama's Fyffe has won 50 in a row).

St. John's (Washington, D.C.) is the lone team to crack the MaxPreps Top 25 after St. Xavier (Cincinnati) dropped out. The Cadets have outscored their first five opponents 167-13 while not allowing more than seven points in any game.

No. 7 Collins Hill (Suwanee, Ga.) improved to 7-0 with its fourth consecutive shutout. But the Eagles were dealt a tough blow in the 63-0 win over Peachtree Ridge (Suwanee) when five-star athlete Travis Hunter left the game in the first quarter with an ankle injury. Sam Horn became Gwinnett County's all-time passing leader in the victory and now has 7,922 yards passing and 78 touchdowns.

No. 10 Katy (Texas) exacted revenge on Tompkins (Katy) with a dominant 56-21 win. The Falcons snapped Katy's 75-game district win streak last season, and the Tigers have not lost since. They won their 14th straight game and are winning by 26.5 points per game this year.

No. 18 St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) has won three in a row since a season-opening loss against No. 16 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), beating De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) 42-28 on Friday. Sophomore quarterback Michael Van Buren had a very impressive night completing 16 of 19 for 241 yards and four touchdowns.
