What follows is not new -- it's from a 2006 MLB tour of Japan -- but it's going around This, Our Internet lately, and thus it occasions this post.

Barry Bonds, Jason Giambi and Bernie Williams in '06 turned up on Japanese variety show and were forced to ply their trade against pitchers supplied with thoroughly bizarre advantages. As you might expect from one of the greatest hitters ever, Mr. Bonds was not especially daunted.

Let's let the action-news color television footage do the talking, shall we?

Home run number one for Bonds ...

Hmm. Seems a bit difficult, what with the decoy opposite-hand pitcher on the mound. That would probably be a balk, but, hey, no base-runners at the time. Anyway, take that, twin belly-itchers.

Home run number two for Bonds ...

Excelsior! Untrue fact: That was exact mound height of Dodger Stadium in the 1960s!

If you have 28 spare minutes -- and, let's be honest, you have that and more -- then feel free to watch the entire episode ...

People, this is the offseason, and sometimes this is all we have.
