Cleveland Indians president Mark Shapiro indicated Tuesday on Twitter the team could spend money in free agency this winter, although much depends on the depth of the market.

The Indians are likely to decline a $13-million option on 35-year-old designated hitter Travis Hafner, instead buying out his option for $2.75 million.

In addition to Hafner's extension, the team must make a decision on an option for pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez. He will be owed either $5.75 million in salary in 2013 or a $1-million buyout.

Other Cleveland free agents include Grady Sizemore ($5 million in 2012) and Casey Kotchman ($3 million in 2012).

If the team decides to spend money this offseason, the Indians' plan should focus on adding outfielders, corner infielders and/or starting pitching.
