The Indians have signed pitcher Hector Rondon and infielder Luis Hernandez to minor-league contracts with invitations to spring training, the club announced Thursday.

Rondon, a 24-year-old righty, has spent the last six years in the Indians' system. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2010, he was forced to undergo another surgery for an elbow fracture sustained in winter ball in November, 2011. He has thrown just 10 professional innings in the last two seasons. In his last full season, 2009, Rondon posted a 3.38 ERA between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus.

Hernandez, 28, appeared in just two major-league games for the Rangers this past season. Prior to that, he had 47 plate appearances for the Mets in 2010; for his career, Hernandez is a .243/.284/.296 hitter in 292 plate appearances. He spent much of 2012 at Triple-A Round Rock in the Texas system, hitting .262/.303/.376 in 572 plate appearances.
