  • White Sox's Giovanni Soto: Released by White Sox

Soto was released by Chicago on Friday.

Soto never made an appearance with the major-league club during his time in the organization, and was let go after competing with Triple-A Charlotte since the start of the season. He had posted a 4.30 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with a 31:10 K:BB through 23 innings of work with the Knights. Soto will look to join his fifth organization in under a year after bouncing around the minor leagues the last few seasons. The 26-year-old has not thrown a pitch in the majors since he was with the Indians in 2015.

  • White Sox's Giovanni Soto: Booted from 40-man roster

Soto was removed from the White Sox's 40-man roster Friday, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.

The left-hander was optioned to Triple-A earlier in the spring, but the White Sox needed room on the 40-man roster in order to add Anthony Swarzak to the major-league relief corps. Despite the demotion, Soto did piece together a decent spring performance, so he could climb back to the big leagues later in the season if he performs well in the minor leagues.

  • White Sox's Giovanni Soto: Heads down to Triple-A

Soto was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.

The dream of a Soto-Soto battery on the south side won't happen on Opening Day, but the 25-year-old southpaw still performed decently with his new ball club in his limited spring performances. Soto has had some success at the Triple-A level and does have 3.1 scoreless MLB innings to his credit, so a return to Chicago isn't out of the question if his performance in Charlotte warrants it.

  • Cubs' Giovanni Soto: Traded to Cubs on Monday

Soto was traded to the Cubs on Monday in exchange for cash considerations, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Soto pitched well between Triple-A and the majors last season in the Indians organization, putting together 3.1 scoreless innings with the big club during the 2015 campaign. This was good enough to pique the Cubs' interest, and now he'll take the slot of the injured Kyle Schwarber (knee, ankle) on the 40-man roster. In a consequential move, Soto was optioned to Triple-A Iowa and will slot into their bullpen until he's needed at the major league level.

  • Indians' Giovanni Soto: Designated for assignment

Soto was designated for assignment by the Indians on Sunday, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports.

The 24-year-old excelled in a relief role at Triple-A Columbus last season, churning out a 2.68 ERA and 51 strikeouts over 53.2 innings, but control problems have often stood in the way of his development. Soto is still young enough to resurface as a useful bullpen arm, but his removal from the 40-man roster certainly qualifies as a setback, as he'll now have no easy path to the majors as a minor-league call-up.

  • Indians' Giovanni Soto: Optioned to Triple-A

Soto was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday.

Soto has not had a very good spring thus far, posting a 9.00 ERA through four innings pitched. The 24-year-old will start the year in Triple-A where he had a solid 2015 season, putting up a 2.68 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. There is a chance he receives a callup at some point in the upcoming season, but even if he did his fantasy value would still be questionable.
