Brown was cut loose by San Francisco on Friday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Brown spent the entirety of the 2018 campaign at the Triple-A level, hitting .242/.331/.273 with 12 RBI in 41 games with Sacramento. He was actually released and then re-signed by the Giants during the middle of the season, and will look for a new home in 2019.

After slashing .163/.208/.199 over 58 games at Triple-A Sacramento in 2017, Brown's dismal hitting display continued this spring. The 26-year-old backstop went just 3-for-24 (.125) with eight strikeouts over 13 Cactus League games for San Francisco. Look for him to return to Triple-A Sacramento this season.

Brown (concussion) is 2-for-9 with two RBI and a run scored since returning from the disabled list with Triple-A Sacramento.
Brown missed two weeks of action after incurring a concussion in late June. He'll resume his regular spot in the River Cats' catching rotation now as he looks to improve on his rough .153/.216/.169 slash line.

Brown suffered the concussion after being struck by a foul tip during Wednesday's game. The 25-year-old hasn't played in any games for the Giants this season after appearing in 75 contests in 2016. During his time with Sacramento this year, Brown is hitting just .148/.210/.165 with no home runs and no RBI in 115 at-bats.

Brown rolled his ankle on March 21 and has been working his way back to playing condition over the past several weeks. It remains a possibility that the reserve catcher will stay with Triple-A Sacramento following his rehab stint, while Buster Posey and Nick Hundley hold down the major-league spots.

Brown will see some playing time at second base this spring and may also play first or third, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.
This move makes sense following the offseason acquisition of Nick Hundley. Brown started 97 games at second base in the minors between 2013 and 2014, so a move to the infield should come naturally. If it works out, it could allow the Giants to carry three catchers. Brown slashed .237/.283/.364 in 75 games last season and could now see a more expansive role if he turns in a strong spring.

Brown was going to get a spot start Thursday, but an illness kept him on the bench. He is still battling the virus but is reportedly healthy enough to suit up Friday. While a game against Jon Lester is rarely one to take advantage of, the righty-lefty matchup could make Brown a decent punt play at catcher in daily formats.

Brown finished 3-for-5 with three RBI during Sunday's 8-7 loss to the Orioles.
Making his weekly start as Buster Posey took a seat, Brown notched his third three-hit game of the season and drove in his first runs of the month. Brown has proven himself to be more than just a capable backup, as his numbers project favorable when extrapolated over a full season, but he is unlikely to see significant playing time at any point unless Posey is forced to miss time.

Buster Posey served as the DH, opening up catcher for Brown's first start since the third of July, and the rookie celebrated his return to the lineup with a bang. The homer was his first since way back on May 15, but Brown has been reasonably productive on those relatively rare occasions on which he's gotten into the lineup.
