Jose Aldo knows his win over Frankie Edgar at UFC 200 ensured his rematch with Conor McGregor, he just didn't know when it would happen. But on Thursday, Aldo said he expects to get his shot at the Irishman at the UFC's next biggest event on the schedule: UFC 205 in New York City.

The event, scheduled for Nov. 12, is still about four months away, giving Aldo a full training camp opportunity, but he does have one caveat that could mess up those plans.

"If he loses (to Nate Diaz), it's highly likely that they put us to fight on Nov. 12, at Madison Square Garden. The Irish community is big over there," Aldo said via MMAFighting.com. "But if he wins, I think they will do a third fight between them and ruin all my plans."

In this scenario, McGregor would be coming off of two consecutive losses two weightclasses above where he holds the belt and, all things considered, fairly pissed off that his test run didn't work out. UFC president Dana White and McGregor have both said McGregor is returning to the 145-pound division. McGregor said at the press conference for UFC 202 in Las Vegas that the featherweight division is scared of him coming back.

"I'll reclaim [my belt]. Let all those featherweights know, who are praying that I don't come back," McGregor said. "I don't even know how they could even say I'm not coming back, like I've missed weight before. Not only have I not missed weight, I've made championship weight when I'm not even fighting for the belt."

Although he has said he wants a trilogy fight with Nate Diaz if he wins, McGregor does want to beat Aldo again. But Aldo remains hopeful at getting his shot.

"He has to lose. Otherwise, they will do a third fight," Aldo said. "I'm rooting for him to lose, of course. If he wins, they will do another rematch with Nate, and that's bad. He has to lose. He has to lose. He will lose."

When the NYC event was announced, people already began hyping it as the biggest pay-per-view of the fall slate. And with how UFC 200 turned out, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see White and the new UFC brass stack this card with multiple title fights.
