The Superstar Racing Experience continues its trek to several of the nation's most historic tracks, as SRX at Slinger Speedway unfolds on Saturday. It's the fifth stop on the six-week SRX Series schedule, with the conclusion coming in Nashville on July 17. Slinger Speedway features a quarter-mile asphalt oval with banked turns. Legendary drivers such as Dale Earnhardt, Mark Martin and Kyle Petty have raced in the prestigious Slinger Nationals at this track. Now, Slinger Speedway is set to host a pivotal SRX race that will go a long way in determining the first season's champion.
Tony Stewart has two wins and three total podiums through five weeks. Not surprisingly, he's the 3-2 favorite in the SRX Series at Slinger Speedway odds. Ernie Francis Jr., however, won at Indianapolis last week and is getting 3-1 odds this week. Other top SRX contenders this week include Greg Biffle (5-2), Helio Castroneves (4-1) and Bobby Labonte (4-1). The green flag on the main race drops at 8 p.m. ET and you can watch it on CBS. SRX picks for Slinger Speedway
Before you tune in to Saturday's race, you need to see the picks from SportsLine's advanced computer model. SportsLine's proprietary racing model simulates every race 10,000 times, taking into account a slew of factors including track history and recent results.
Two weeks back, the model was all over Stewart (3-2) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the SRX Series at Eldora race. The model also called Stewart winning three weeks ago at Knoxville, and now it has dialed in on Saturday's SRX at Slinger race and released its projections.
For Saturday's race, the model is calling for Stewart to pick up his third SRX victory in a four-week span. Stewart, one of the founders of the SRX, was expected to also be one of the top drivers. He's easily lived up to that billing as he leads the SRX standings with 160 points, 30 clear of Ernie Francis Jr. and 40 in front of Helio Castroneves.
The model, however, is fading Marco Andretti. He's getting 5-1 SRX odds, but he's projected to finish outside the top five. A member of the legendary Andretti racing family, Marco Andretti is best known for his work in the IndyCar Series, where he's won twice and racked up 20 podiums. He's still looking for his first podium finish in the SRX Series, as he hasn't finished better than fourth despite being one of the full-time drivers who has raced each week.
Andretti's average finish position through four weeks is 6.25. The model is higher on five other drivers, including Bill Elliott (8-1), so there are better SRX at Slinger Speedway picks this week than Andretti.
