Sunday marks Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson's 57th birthday. The former Michigan State star remains a popular member of the NBA community even if his tweets are sometimes rather ... well, something. Johnson remains the NBA's all-time leader in playoff assists, and was voted one of the NBA's top 50 greatest players of all time. What's crazy is that Johnson played in an era of reduced athleticism and slower speed. Imagine him in today's wide-open, no-hand-checks, 3-point-heavy offense and his numbers would be simply staggering. As it stands he was the prototype for point forward, and perhaps no player was influenced more by Johnson than LeBron James, who stands as the evolutionary adaptation of Johnson's combination of size, skill and vision.
