49ers vs. Jaguars score, takeaways: San Francisco snaps three-game skid; Christian McCaffrey TD streak ends

The San Francisco 49ers snapped their three-game losing streak as they defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 34-3 on Sunday. Jacksonville entered Week 10 on the longest active win streak in the league, but looked completely outmatched on both sides of the ball.

The 49ers jumped out to a 10-0 lead on their first two possessions, and never looked back. Brock Purdy completed 19 of 26 passes for 296 yards and three touchdowns, while Christian McCaffrey recorded 147 yards from scrimmage. However, he was held out of the end zone for the first time in 18 games to snap his historic TD streak. George Kittle caught three passes for 116 yards and one touchdown, and Brandon Aiyuk caught three passes for 55 yards and one touchdown. Deebo Samuel had a solid game as well, recording 59 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown in his return to the lineup.

As for the Jaguars, they struggled mightily. Trevor Lawrence completed 17 of 29 passes for 185 yards, and accounted for three of Jacksonville's four turnovers. Christian Kirk caught six passes for 104 yards, while Travis Etienne was held to just 44 total yards.

Let's take a look at what went down in Jacksonville on Sunday.

Why the 49ers won

When we talk about a "team win," this is what we're describing. Purdy played turnover-free football and threw three touchdowns, McCaffrey went for over 100 total yards and then Kittle, Aiyuk and Samuel all scored touchdowns. The offense was hitting on all cylinders compared to Lawrence's unit, and the defense returned to form too. The 49ers got to the quarterback five times and forced four turnovers, including an impressive forced fumble by Ambry Thomas inside the San Francisco 10-yard line.

The 49ers dominated on Sunday, and showed why they are still legitimate contenders.

Why the Jaguars lost

The Jaguars offense could get nothing going, and when the Jaguars did manage to get down the field, they couldn't find the end zone. Jacksonville picked up just 221 yards of total offense, went 4-for-12 on third down, turned the ball over four times and went 0-for-2 in the red zone. Lawrence threw for just 185 yards, while the Jaguars managed just 59 yards on the ground.

Play of the game and turning point

Down 17 points in the third quarter, the Jaguars were driving down the field. In the red zone for the second time on the day, Lawrence hit Kirk out on the left side to get the Jags to around the 5-yard line, but Thomas stripped him clean!

Thomas actually returned the loose football for a touchdown, but the score was nullified because several members of the 49ers ran onto the field during the middle of the play. Stay on the bench, folks!

Ohio State combo sack-turnover

The 49ers acquired former Washington Commanders pass rusher Chase Young at the trade deadline, who was college teammates with Nick Bosa. The two combined for a QB-takedown early in the second quarter, and Bosa ended up with the ball!

The Ohio State dynamic duo is back.

What's next

The 49ers return home next week to play host to Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers. As for the Jaguars, they will remain in Jacksonville and take on the rival Tennessee Titans.

Up 31 points late in the fourth quarter, the 49ers are going for it on fourth and goal to get McCaffrey into the NFL record books. Kind of crazy. The pass falls incomplete.

OK, so the touchdown was taken away because of 49ers players leaving the bench mid-play. Sooo stupid.

Oh man. Lot to recap here. Christian Kirk fumbled inside the 10 yard line, and it was recovered by Ambry Thomas, who returned it ALL the way for a touchdown.

However, an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty nullifies the touchdown... Hmm. That's usually a penalty that doesn't take away TDs.

Christian Kirk caught a 39-yard pass downfield, but had to come back to it. SF challenged the catch, but the ruling was upheld. Huge pickup for JAX and we will now see what they can do in the red zone down 17.

Jaguars defense with an impressive stand. 49ers go three-and-out, and were once again hurt by a penalty, as Trent Williams was called for holding during a successful third-down conversion. However, Wishnowsky booted quite the punt ... Jags take over at their own one-yard line.

An Aiyuk OPI on first down virtually ruined the drive for San Francisco. Purdy missed Jennings on the ensuing first-and-20, McCaffrey got four yards on second-and-20. The possession was over. Good stand by Jaguars D. 49ers forced to punt for the first time today.

Honestly, no idea why Purdy threw that ball. That was scary. But, can't argue with the results I guess.
