The Los Angeles Chargers had time to get healthier and will try to keep momentum when they host the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football. The Chargers (2-2) come into the NFL Week 6 matchup off a bye week after winning two in a row. The Cowboys (3-2) have lost two of their past three and are licking their wounds after a 42-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football last week. The Chargers have won three of the past four meetings with Dallas, but the Cowboys won the most recent, 20-17 on a last-second field goal in 2021.

Kickoff in Los Angeles is set for 8:15 p.m. ET. Dallas is a 1.5-point favorite in the latest Cowboys vs. Chargers odds, and the over/under for total points scored is 50.5. Why the Cowboys can cover

The Cowboys were done in by turnovers and poor defense last week, but neither had been an issue early in the season. The 49ers are one of the NFL's best on both sides of ball and while the L.A. offense is strong, the Cowboys' defense is formidable. The unit is second in the league against the pass (168.6 yards per game) and fifth overall (292 total yards). Linebacker Micah Parsons, the favorite to win Defensive Player of the Year, leads a pass rush that creates havoc.

Parsons is second in the league pressure rate (22.3%) and has four sacks. The Cowboys pressure the quarterback on 51% of drop-backs, most in the league. Quarterback Dak Prescott threw three interceptions against San Francisco, but he has four overall and is completing 69% of his throws. The Chargers have the worst pass defense in the league (300 yards per game), so Prescott (1,061 passing yards) and CeeDee Lamb (358 receiving yards) should exploit it. See who to back at SportsLine.

Why the Chargers can cover

Quarterback Justin Herbert is 3-1 in his career on Monday Night Football and the Chargers are 5-1 against the spread in their past six games as an underdog. Herbert is completing 71% of his throws (fourth in NFL) and has 1,106 passing yards, seven touchdowns and one interception. L.A. has turned the ball over twice and is plus-five in turnover margin, tied for third-best in the league. Receiver Keenan Allen has 35 receptions for 434 yards and three touchdowns.

The expected return of versatile running back Austin Ekeler should boost an offense that is fifth in the league in total yards (389 per game) but 13th in rushing (120). Ekeler had 117 rushing yards in the opener before injuring his ankle and had 1,629 total yards in 2022. Pass rusher Joey Bosa (three sacks) also is expected to be back and will join Khalil Mack, who had six sacks against the Raiders, in harassing Dak Prescott. See who to back at SportsLine.
