Henrik Lundqvist was fined $5,000 by the NHL on Monday for unsportsmanlike conduct in Sunday's Game 6 against Pittsburgh.

Reports earlier on Monday had Lundqvist escaping any kind of discipline for dumping water on Sidney Crosby in a scrum in Game 6 but either the NHL had a change of heart or the reports were off.

The optics weren't good for the lack of any discipline considering Bruins forward Shawn Thornton was fined his maximum allowed on Sunday for squirting P.K. Subban with water. If one were subject to a fine and not the other, it wouldn't be a good look for the league considering they were similar (albeit not equal) offenses.

The discrepency in fines is related to their salaries. Since Lundqvist makes just a wee bit more than Thornton, he gets the max fine of $5,000 while Thornton's fine of $2,820.52 was the most he could be fined based on his salary.

Game 7 between the Rangers and Penguins is on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh. It's going to be hot, perhaps Lundqvist could use some of that water then (as for the money, well, that's like $5 to him).
