• The NHL is expected to cancel more regular-season games on Monday. For now, it's still at 422 missed, plus the Winter Classic in Ann Arbor, Mich., and the NHL All-Star Weekend in Columbus, Ohio. Are we having fun yet?

• Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller explained his reported "outburst" at Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs to John Vogl of The Buffalo News.

"The owners wanted to leave the room and pull everything we spent a full day on. I asked them to stay and continue pushing through. I may have been passionate but there was no disrespect or calling out one owner by name. I have a lot of respect for any owner because they are a big part of hockey.

"I wanted more than anything to make a deal but we are not professional negotiators. We as players didn't have the experience or authority to make a final deal. We were trying to responsibly move this process forward as best we could. If anyone thinks that we did wrong by the game or by the fans then they are misinformed. We have a responsibility to about 750 players and we made moves approved by them and thinking about them." [Buffalo News]

• Speaking of Jacobs, Ray Ratto of CSN Bay Area believes this entire fight isn't necessarily about Gary Bettman vs. Donald Fehr, but actually Fehr vs. Jacobs.

One side has Jeremy Jacobs. The other side has Don Fehr. Fehr isn’t leaving the room if Jacobs isn’t, and Jacobs is never leaving the room. Impasse-by-ass.

And the moderate owners– screwed again, by their own disinterest. They deserve it, too, because there are more of them than any other faction, but they don’t want to bother enough to crash the room and make the deal that can potentially enrich them all. They’d rather let the hardliners deliver them a contract, and then let the wealthiest clubs steamroll their way around it. [CSN Bay Area]

• Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall believes both sides should continue to negotiate since they're so close to a deal. [Detroit News]

• Blues captain David Backes, who was part of the negotiations in New York this week, is still optimistic there is a deal to be made. [St. Louis Post-Dispatch]

Hockey fix

Here is every goal scored by Detroit Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg during the 2011-12 season. It wasn't his best year offensively -- his 22 goals were his lowest total since he scored just 15 (in only 61 games) in 2003-04 -- but he's still an impact player and there are still some beauties in here.
