The Buffalo Sabres lost their season opener 3-1 to the Ottawa Senators, but since the Sabres scored at least once, we all won.

You see, the Sabres decided they needed a new goal song. They also decided the fans needed to vote on it. And you know what won among the eight options available to vote on? If it wasn’t in the headline, you’d probably never guess it.

But it was indeed DJ Kool’s classic hit “Let Me Clear My Throat.”

Released in 1996, DJ Kool knew exactly what he was doing. And what was he doing exactly? Making somebody make some noise in this joint, is what.

So when the Sabres’ highly-anticipated rookie Jack Eichel scored the first goal of the season in the third period, the in-arena D.J. got to hit play on this timeless classic.

The Sabres then smartly took to Twitter and shared the highlight of the goal, with home broadcaster Rick Jeanneret’s call of the goal, the fog horn, the crowd noise and then the sweet sounds of DJ Kool.

This shouldn’t make sense as a goal song, but oh my goodness it does. They even spliced the song up a bit to make sure that it hits all the right points to keep the crowd rocking in celebration after the home team lights the lamp. How can you not smile after hearing that?

Now all you kids out there look up “Yo! MTV Raps” and do the Ed Lover dance for the rest of the night.
