Manchester City has signed Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, the English club announced on Thursday.

City's new boss Pep Guardiola has been looking for a goalkeeper to replace the out of favor Joe Hart, even opting for backup Willy Caballero through the first three games of the season before letting Hart play in the Champions League playoff on Wednesday.

Bravo, 33, is a proven winner and a big upgrade. He won eight trophies at Barca since his move from Real Sociedad in 2014 and won the Copa America with Chile the last two summers. Bravo was not signed by Guardiola at Barcelona, but he is a goalkeeper that the City boss has followed and seen play for years.

"It is not easy to leave a club like Barcelona where I had two fantastic years, but the opportunity to work with Pep Guardiola was too good to refuse," Bravo said, per the club.

Guardiola said Bravo is a fantastic goalkeeper and 'an excellent addition to our squad.'

As for Barca, the move means Marc-Andre ter Stegen is the starter moving forward, though the club signed Dutch international Jasper Cillessen from Ajax on Thursday as the backup.
