German federal prosecutors announced they have detained a suspect in connection with Tuesday's incident where Borussia Dortmund's bus was hit by explosions on the way to the stadium.

Scheduled to face Monaco in the Champions League quarterfinals, the match was postponed to Wednesday (12:45 p.m. ET kickoff) after the incident, which saw Dortmund defender Marc Bartra injured due to shattered glass. He was sent to the hospital and underwent surgery on Tuesday and is expected to recover.

The search

Officials said a letter was found near the scene and that two suspects were sought, one of whom was detained. Prosecutors are treating it as an act of terrorism. 

According to Bild, apartments were searched for two suspects believed to be associated with radical extremism.

One person was arrested in Wuppertal, with Bild describing the person as someone who was preparing an "explosive assassination attempt," also saying he is accused of being associated with ISIS. 

The man arrested is reportedly from Iraq, with a second suspect who is Germany is being sought.

The explosives used

Small bombs filled with metal splinters were used and could reach a distance of over 300 feet, according to Bild. 

It is unclear how they got there, if they were thrown or placed ahead of time.

According to Welt, a policeman was also injured in the attack.

The Investigation

Authorities are continuing their investigation. Dortmund's stadium is being searched by police ahead of kickoff on Wednesday.
