The Bundesliga is finally back on Saturday with the country's biggest derby as Borussia Dortmund hosts Schalke in the Revierderby as the hosts have a weakened squad for this clash that could open the door for the visitors. American talents take center stage with Weston McKennie of Schalke facing talented Dortmund in what's a massive early game for both. After two months off, momentum is here for the taking as well as bragging rights. Dortmund is in second place and four points behind Bayern Munich while sixth-place Schalke is looking to fend off Wolfsburg, Freiburg and Hoffenheim in order to qualify for the Europa League. These two teams have played some wild matches in the past, including a 4-4 draw two season's ago where Dortmund was actually leading 4-0 at half time, only to collapse in the second half.

Storylines

Dortmund: The black and yellow are the favorites in this match, and all eyes will be on Erling Haaland as he faces Schalke for the first time. He will be going up against an inconsistent defense that can at times struggle with speed. Expect Haaland and Jadon Sancho to create enough chances to win this one comfortably, though being rusty is a concern for everybody involved. In the middle, the club is without Axel Witsel and Emre Can as they look to recover from injuries, giving Schalke an advantage in the middle of the park.

Schalke: This club has found some consistency under David Wagner, and McKennie hopes the team's focus on fitness pays off. McKennie told CBS Sports that his team has really been working on stamina and fitness and are expecting it to show once the ball starts rolling on Saturday. Against a team with pace, having the energy to keep up late could be the difference with Dortmund's deadly counter attacks. But don't discount Schalke's own counters. The club aims to go on the counter after recovering the ball, quickly asking strikes to stretch a bit wide. That allows a triangle-style attack for the player with the ball, who can then try to dump it off to a striker or take their own chance, pending the defensive setup. It's worked seven times so far this season, but will it on Saturday?

Prediction

Haaland shines in his first Revierderby by scoring one and setting up another to put some early pressure on Bayern Munich. Pick: Borussia Dortmund 2, Schalke 0
