After a trip to Russia this summer for the Confederations Cup, Mexico will be going back next summer. El Tri beat Panama 1-0 on Friday night in qualifying to clinch a spot in the 2018 World Cup. In first place in the hexagonal round of qualifying in CONCACAF, Mexico continued its fine form with the narrow victory, as Hirving Lozano scored this winner in the second half:

Mexico becomes the fifth team to secure a spot at next summer's competition, joining host Russia, Brazil, Iran and Japan. Meanwhile, Panama sits on seven points in qualifying and still has a shot to finish in third for direct qualification, or fourth, which would mean a two-game playoff against the Asian federation.
