Who's Playing

SMU @ Houston

Current Records: SMU 21-6; Houston 24-4

What to Know

The SMU Mustangs have enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they must head out on the road. SMU and the #14 Houston Cougars will face off in an American Athletic battle at 12:30 p.m. ET Sunday at Fertitta Center. These two teams seek to continue their momentum from their previous wins.

While not quite a landslide, the contest between the Mustangs and the Tulsa Golden Hurricane this past Wednesday was still a pretty decisive one as SMU wrapped it up with a 75-61 win at home. SMU's success was spearheaded by the efforts of forward Marcus Weathers, who posted a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds, and guard Emmanuel Bandoumel, who had 14 points.

Meanwhile, Houston strolled past the Tulane Green Wave with points to spare this past Wednesday, taking the game 81-67. Houston's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but guard Kyler Edwards led the charge as he had 21 points. Edwards hadn't helped his team much against the Wichita State Shockers last week, so this was a nice turnaround for him.

The Mustangs have to know they'll be fighting an uphill battle given the 10.50 point spread they are up against. They might be worth taking a chance on against the spread, however, as they are currently on a two-game streak of ATS wins.

SMU is now 21-6 while the Cougars sit at 24-4. A couple defensive stats to keep an eye on: SMU have been holding their opponents to a field goal percentage of 39.70%, which places them 22nd in college basketball. But Houston is even better: they have been holding their opponents to a field goal percentage of 36.80%, which places them first in college basketball. We'll see if that edge gives Houston a route to victory.
