A Division II basketball game transformed into a chair-swinging brawl last weekend in Memphis, resulting in a postponement of the game and an investigation which could result in prosecution for some of the principals.
LeMoyne-Owen and Lane College are longtime rivals and when things got heated between players and coaches on the floor, an unidentified man picked up a chair and struck a Lane player.
The chair escalated the entire situation as the teams began to fight.
Right now, no charges have been filed by the authorities, nor have any punishments have been handed down by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, but an investigation is ongoing.
"Such behavior will not be tolerated in our league under any circumstances," SIAC Commissioner Greg Moore said in a release. "As a consequence, and at the conclusion of our internal investigation, all responsible parties in connection with this incident shall be subject to the most severe sanctions authorized by the conference rules and bylaws."
