SMU forward Justin Martin has decided to forego the rest of his senior season and turn professional, according to the Dallas Morning News

SMU forward Justin Martin has decided to forego the remainder of his senior year to turn pro, coach Larry Brown said.

...

“We appreciate Justin’s contributions to our team and our program,” Brown said in a statement. “We wish him the best.”

Martin, a 6-foot-6 forward, averaged 5.7 points and 2.2 rebounds in 12 minutes per game this season.

He was a graduate transfer from Xavier, where he started for two seasons and averaged 11.7 points-per-game in his junior season. For the Mustangs, he was expected to add some outside shooting after making 37 percent of his 134 3-point attempts from last season.

It's worth mentioning that Martin had improved his per-minute numbers across the board in limited time this season, but just could never totally establish himself in the Mustang rotation. Part of that problem was due to injury, as he suffered a right knee injury against Eastern Washington. But he is seemingly recovered, and hasn't played in either of SMU's previous two games against Memphis or UCF.

It'll be interesting to see if Martin tries to pursue a career in the D-League or overseas after this decision.
