Through 3 Quarters

Only one more quarter stands between the Marshall Thundering Herd and the win they were favored to collect going into this night. Three quarters in and their offense has really been able to impose its will, dominating the North Texas Mean Green 42-7.

Marshall has been relying on QB Grant Wells, who has passed for two TDs and 326 yards on 32 attempts in addition to punching in two rushing touchdowns, and RB Rasheen Ali, who has punched in two rushing touchdowns in addition to catching one pass for 50 yards.

RB DeAndre Torrey has led the way so far for North Texas, as he has rushed for one TD and 112 yards on 16 carries. That touchdown -- a 75-yard rush in the second quarter -- was one of the highlights of the game.

The Thundering Herd's lead is the biggest they have had this year going into the fourth quarter.

Marshall @ North Texas

Current Records: Marshall 3-3; North Texas 1-4

What to Know

After two games on the road, the North Texas Mean Green are heading back home. North Texas and the Marshall Thundering Herd will face off in a Conference USA battle at 7 p.m. ET Friday at Apogee Stadium. Marshall should still be feeling good after a victory, while the Mean Green will be looking to right the ship.

North Texas came up short against the Missouri Tigers last week, falling 48-35. North Texas' defeat came about despite a quality game from QB Austin Aune, who passed for four TDs and 305 yards on 26 attempts in addition to picking up 57 yards on the ground. Aune's 77-yard touchdown toss to WR Damon Ward Jr. in the fourth quarter made for one of the most memorable moments of the evening.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Marshall ultimately got the result they were hoping for last week with a 20-13 win over the Old Dominion Monarchs. No one had a standout game offensively for Marshall, but they got scores from WR Shadeed Ahmed and WR Willie Johnson. The Thundering Herd's win came on a 22-yard TD pass from QB Grant Wells to Ahmed with only 0:00 remaining in overtime.

Marshall's defense was a presence, as it got past Old Dominion's offensive line to sack the QB four times for a total loss of ten yards. It was a group effort with five guys contributing.

North Texas is the clear underdog, so they're hoping it's the size of the fight that determines this one. They hadn't treated fans well this season, but they at least enjoy a 3-1 record against the spread.

North Texas is now 1-4 while Marshall sits at 3-3. Two stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: The Mean Green are 222nd worst in the nation in thrown interceptions, having thrown seven on the season. The Thundering Herd have experienced some struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the contest with the 247th most thrown interceptions in the nation, having thrown ten on the season. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
