Russell (foot) hit in the cage and ran the bases Wednesday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
According to the latest timetable on Russell, he could return in a week or so. The Cubs would certainly like to get him back in time to give him some game action in order to determine whether he should be on a potential playoff roster. In the meantime, Javier Baez will continue to start at shortstop.
