The White Sox traded Speas to the Athletics on Saturday for cash considerations.
Speas was DFA'd by the White Sox on Friday after being optioned to Triple-A Charlotte in spring training. He's had a rough start in the minors, allowing four runs on two hits and two walks while striking out two over 2.1 innings in Triple-A. Speas will look to get a handle on his control issues with the Athletics after walking 41 over 57.2 innings last season across three levels.

Speas allowed three runs with a 3:6 K:BB over six innings this spring. Walks have always been an issue for the 26-year-old and they could prevent the 26-year-old from receiving high-leverage looks for the White Sox even as he has better stuff than most of their other relievers.

Speas was designated for assignment by Texas on the second-to-last day of the regular season. He allowed three earned runs in just two major-league innings this year but posted a 2.86 ERA with 85 strikeouts in 56.2 innings between Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock.
