  • Astros' Colin Barber: Returns to Double-A lineup

Barber (hip) served as a designated hitter and went 1-for-4 with a base hit and two strikeouts in Double-A Corpus Christi's 3-2 win over Frisco. Though he never went on Corpus Christi's 7-day injured list, Barber hadn't appeared in a game for the club since Aug. 13 on account of a sore right hip before he rejoined the lineup Friday. Barber received Saturday's game off, but Corpus Christi hasn't provided any indication that the 22-year-old outfielder is dealing with a setback on the heels of playing Friday.

  • Astros' Colin Barber: Sidelined with sore hip

Barber hasn't played for Double-A Corpus Christi since Aug. 13 due to right hip flexor discomfort, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Corpus Christi has yet to place Barber on its 7-day injured list, so the team may be viewing him as day-to-day even though he's been out of commission for more than a week. The 22-year-old outfielder has produced a .247/.366/.428 slash line with nine home runs and five stolen bases across 292 plate appearances with Corpus Christi this season.

  • Astros' Colin Barber: Strong start at Double-A

Barber is hitting .292 with a .420 OBP, three home runs and one steal in 22 games for Double-A Corpus Christi. It's good to see Barber off to a strong start in a more neutral hitting environment after he put up a .298/.408/.450 slash line last year while playing half his games in the extremely hitter-friendly park at High-A Asheville. Barber has dealt with shoulder trouble early in his career, so staying healthy will be key for the 22-year-old corner outfielder. Once a plus runner, it seems Barber's speed has ticked down a bit, given that he has attempted just one steal and has a 3.9 speed score early this season.

  • Astros' Colin Barber: Taking part in development camp

Barber (shoulder) is one of 45 Astros minor leaguers currently participating in development camp at the organization's spring training facility in Florida after he made a full recovery from the right labrum surgery he required last summer, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic reports. The shoulder injury coupled with the cancellation of the 2020 minor-league season due to the COVID-19 pandemic has limited Barber to just 16 games over the past two seasons, so he'll be facing a critical year in 2022 with regard to his long-term outlook within the organization. Barber seemingly endured no complications in his 6-to-8-month rehab program from labral surgery, so he doesn't look as though he'll face any limitations this spring and once the season gets underway. When the Astros selected him in the fourth round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, Barber was viewed as a power-hitting lefty who could stick in center field, but the lack of at-bats the past two seasons has prevented the organization from getting a sense of whether he'll be able to meet those expectations. Look for the 21-year-old to begin the upcoming campaign at High-A Asheville, where he's expected to see action at all three outfield spots.
