The Mariners released Poppen on Friday. Poppen gave up four earned runs in 3.1 innings during his first two appearances at Triple-A Tacoma, and he'll now look to latch on with another organization -- likely on a minor-league deal. Mariners' Sean Poppen: Shifts to minors camp
The Mariners reassigned Poppen to minor-league camp Saturday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Poppen appeared in two games for the Mariners this spring, surrendering just one hit while striking out three batters, but he will be removed from big-league camp nonetheless. Poppen signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Jan. 18 and received an invitation to major-league spring training. Poppen spent all of last season with the Padres' Triple-A affiliate, accumulating a 6.33 ERA and 1.88 WHIP across 58.1 innings in 47 appearances. Barring a significant turnaround from the 29-year-old righty during spring camp, Poppen should return to Triple-A to begin the new season.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Sean Poppen: Outrighted to Triple-A
Poppen cleared waivers Friday and was sent outright to Triple-A El Paso. After being claimed off waivers from Arizona in December, Poppen is now set to begin 2023 in the minors. Padres' Sean Poppen: Claimed by San Diego
Poppen was claimed off waivers from Arizona by the Padres on Friday. Poppen recorded a 4.40 ERA and 1.36 WHIP through 28.2 innings in 2022 -- all career bests for the 28-year-old reliever.
