Avery (abdomen) was placed on injured reserve Friday, Scott Smith of Tampa Bay's official site reports.
Avery suffered an injury to his abdomen in Week 14 and has been sidelined since. He'll now miss the rest of the regular season, but he could return in the postseason should the Buccaneers advance to the divisional round. Anthony Nelson should get all the snaps he can handle at outside linebacker in the absence of Avery.
