The Canadiens placed Brooks on waivers Thursday, Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette reports.
It's a mildly surprising move, as Brooks was recently grabbed off waivers from Toronto. He was positioned to enter lineup after practicing for the first time with his new team Wednesday. Fourth-line center Cedric Paquette has won two of 13 faceoffs, and Montreal overall has been poor on draws, which seemed to open the door for Brooks, though that may not now be the case.
