Smith has four points -- two goals, two assists -- through 22 games and 8:18 of average ice time this season.
Smith is planted in a fourth-line role; he plays with a high degree of physicality and brings plenty of energy to seemingly make the most of limited action. It would be interesting to see what he would do with a heavier role considering he's averaging 1.3 points/60 minutes. For comparison's sake, Filip Zadina, Detroit's sixth overall pick from 2018, is averaging 1.4 points/60 minutes in a bigger role that includes power-play responsibilities. Smith won't be a fantasy asset unless he can carve out a larger role, but he has some untapped potential.
