The Sabres waived Smith on Sunday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Smith spent the entirety of the 2019-20 campaign in the minors, picking up 12 goals and 27 points in 50 contests. He's 26 years old and has 13 games of NHL experience under his belt, so Smith could end up on the Sabres' taxi squad to start the season.
