Remember May 2? It wasn't that long ago in terms of everyday life, but six weeks in a baseball season can seem like an eternity. And that's the last time the Pirates lost an A.J. Burnett start.
Since then, including Saturday's 9-2 win over the Indians, Burnett is 6-0 with a 2.19 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in eight starts -- and, again, the Pirates have won all eight of those starts.
Yes, this is the same Burnett that was run out of New York via trade, in a deal that was tantamount to a salary dump. But Saturday, Burnett did what aces do, he went out and halted a four-game losing streak -- which means the Pirates haven't won a game Burnett did not start since June 9.
From castoff to All-Star? At this point, it looks like Burnett may be headed that way. If that happens, it would be the first trip of the 35-year-old hurler's career.
