Major League Baseball completed its 2020 amateur draft on Thursday night. The spread of the novel coronavirus required the draft to be held virtually instead of in Omaha, Nebraska alongside the College World Series. The owners' desire to slash costs, meanwhile, led to the draft being shortened from 40 rounds to five.

With the 10th overall pick in the draft, the Los Angeles Angels selected left-hander Reid Detmers out of Louisville. Detmers was the No. 8 overall prospect on R.J. Anderson's big board. The Angels earned a B for their overall draft grade:

The pitching-needy Angels selected Louisville lefty Reid Detmers, arguably the most MLB ready pitcher in the draft class, in the first round. There's a chance he'll join their 50-man roster this season. Third rounder David Calabrese has high-end tools and was seen as a possible tough sign, but I assume the Angels know they can sign him if they selected him. The Halos gave up their second rounder to sign Anthony Rendon, so they were short a pick, but Detmers and Calabrese make this a pretty good haul..

Below you'll find a draft tracker for the Los Angeles Angels.
