The Rangers and Athletics are locked in a battle for the AL West championship Wednesday afternoon, and through four innings, two defensive miscues on balls in the air have had a huge impact.

First, there was George Kottaras' misplay of a Mike Napoli popup. Here:

It led to a Rangers run, giving the Rangers a 5-1 lead through three innings.

Of course, the A's rallied in the bottom of the fourth. The Rangers appeared to be escaping with a 5-5 tie, but then this happened:

It allowed two runs, giving the A's a 7-5 lead.
