Major League Baseball completed its 2020 amateur draft on Thursday. The spread of the novel coronavirus required the draft to be held virtually instead of in Omaha, Nebraska alongside the College World Series. The owners' desire to slash costs, meanwhile, led to the draft being shortened from 40 rounds to five.
With the final pick of the first round (29th overall), the Los Angeles Dodgers selected Bobby Miller, a righty out of Louisville. He was part of an L.A. class that earned a B from our experts:
Each of the Dodgers' first three picks were college arms, beginning with Bobby Miller and extending to Landon Knack and Clayton Beeter. (The Dodgers don't get extra points for fun names, but they could.) L.A.'s draft could look better or worse in a few years' time depending on their ability to help those arms remain in a rotation. Beeter, whose spin rates were better even than Asa Lacy's, has been identified as a potential steal.
Below you'll find a draft tracker for the Dodgers.
