Paul Molitor: He's a Hall of Famer and the freshly minted manager of the Twins. He's also, fittingly enough, a St. Paul native and a University of Minnesota product.

Now let us admire Mr. Molitor in his Golden Gopher days ...

Youth and young manhood!

As SABR's bio of Molitor notes, Molitor was on the verge of signing with the Cardinals, who drafted him out of high school in 1974, but a late scholarship offer persuaded him to head to the nearby U of Minny. Molitor emerged as a star shortstop for the Golden Gophers and as a junior led them to the College World Series.

Some time after the image you see above was taken, the Brewers made Molitor the third overall pick of the 1977 draft (behind Harold Baines and Bill Gullickson). He signed, and very good things would follow.
