Jared Remy, son of longtime Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy, has admitted to killing his girlfriend in their home last August. The 35-year-old Remy pleaded guilty to Tuesday to first-degree murder, assault and battery, violating a restraining order and other charges resulting from the stabbing death of Jennifer Martel. He has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Remy told the court that he killed Martel because she had a knife and threatened him with their 4-year-old daughter.

None of Remy's family members were in the court Tuesday, per his request. He told the court that he was pleading guilty because he wanted to take responsibility for what he did.

“My family did everything they could to help Jen,” Jared Remy said in his statement, adding that he was the “bad apple” and that “if you ask my family they’d rather have me dead than her.”
