  • Royals' Andrew Edwards: Clears waivers, outrighted to Double-A

Edwards cleared waivers and was assigned outright to Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Saturday.

Added to the 40-man last November for Rule 5 protection, Edwards failed to justify the move, posting a 7.92 ERA and 1.92 WHIP across three minor-league levels to open the 2017 campaign. He made three appearances for High-A Wilmington, allowing one run over 5.2 relief innings since returning. Edwards is expected to move up to Triple-A Omaha (where he began the season) once the right-hander stacks some innings. The 25-year-old is a candidate to make his MLB debut out of the Royals bullpen later in 2017.
