Sacramento Kings big man DeMarcus Cousins did something that no other player has done this season -- score 56 points in a game.
Against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday, Cousins scored a career-high 56 points. It's the most by any player this season and is also a Kings record. In his last two games, Cousins has scored a whopping 108 points.
The Hornets simply could not stop Cousins, who dominated in the post. Cousins shot 21 of 30 from the field, 1 of 3 from 3-point range and 13 of 16 from the free-throw line. Charlotte tried a variety of different defenders on Cousins but he was just too much to handle as three Hornets players -- Marvin Williams, Tyler Hansbrough and Spencer Hawes -- all fouled while trying to guard the Kings big man.
Cousins fouled out in the second overtime, allowing the Hornets to take advantage and outlast the Kings to win, 129-128. The Kings big man finished with 12 rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block in just under 46 minutes.
Cousins' 56-point performance is quite remarkable considering he is a center and all of the other 50-plus scorers are guards. Besides Cousins, the only other players to have scored 50 or more points this season are Kemba Walker, James Harden, Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler.
